Current Awareness Service (SDI)
The Current Awareness Service provides patrons with the most current references on topics of interest each time a database is updated. Users may create and save a search strategy on specific topics or by specific authors to be run against the most recent updates. In most cases the results or retrieval from the final set can be automatically sent to a user's e-mail address.
Please contact the Reference Desk at 924-5591, or e-mail hslref@virginia.edu if you need assistance in setting up an SDI search in any of these databases.
In MEDLINE and/or other database searches can be set up to run automatically. They will be executed each time the database is updated. MEDLINE is updated weekly and PreMEDLINE is updated daily.
The database is an aggregate of hundreds of scientific, technical, and medical journals from over 50 publishers and societies. Full-text is available only for those titles subscribed to by UVa.
Covers Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Art & Humanities Citation Index. Automatic running of a search strategy is available for this database if your search is saved on their server. The search can be limited to the last update, latest two weeks, or last four weeks.
Delivered by e-mail every Monday through Friday, Daily POEMs are synopses of new evidence carefully filtered for relevance to patient care and evaluated for validity. All POEMs are added to the Daily POEMs database in Essential Evidence Plus. POEM stands for Patient-Oriented Evidence that Matters. (UVa affiliates only)
New
Issue/TOC Alert
After setting up a personal profile, users can set up an automatic
e-mail notification of new issues from about 1200 journal
titles. Users will receive an e-mail notification each time
a new issue appears online. E-mail notices include a link
to the table of contents for the current issue, which will
include links to the full-text of articles.
Automatic
Saved Searches
After setting up a personal profile, detailed searches can
be run and saved as an Auto Alert. Auto Alerts can be set
up to run either daily or weekly. Searches will yield results
from anything new to the database since the last Auto Alert
was run.
PubCrawler
searches the NCBI PubMED (Medline) and GenBank databases daily
using search parameters specified by the users. Frequency
can be set to daily or weekly.
LINK Alerts allows users to register and request e-mail notification of a new journal's TOC as soon as they become available through LINK. Over 480 titles are available via the SpringerLINK service, ALL in full-text.
Publishes
over 292 scientific journals online. Individual journal titles
can be set up so that TOCs will be e-mailed to registered
users as soon as new issues appear online.
