Journal Exceptions

Restricted Access to Enhanced Content

Some online journals offer “enhanced” features not included in the Library's intitutional site licenses:

JAMA and the Archives titles from the AMA

The page on JAMA and Archives access information illustrates the features available to individual vs. institutional subscribers. The CME, My Folder, and Readers Reply + features are available only to individual subscribers.

New England Journal of Medicine

The New England Journal of Medicine “Online Access Levels” chart illustrates the features available with the Library's “Site License.” The ability to download PowerPoint presentations (published in conjunction with an article) is one of features available only to individual subscribers.

Science

Consult the Science “Compare Subscription & Access Options” chart to determine features available with the Library's “Institutional Subscription.” Note that the Library has paid an additional fee to provide access for UVa affiliates to ScienceExpress (full-text articles posted before print publication).

American Scientist

All users of this online journal, including those accessing through our UVa site license, must pay for PDF versions of articles. The publisher does provide these printing tips:

  1. Choose “Go To Article”;
  2. At the bottom of the first page, choose “Article-Friendly Tools”;
  3. Choose “Printer-Friendly Version”;

This will give you the ability to print the full article with illustrations.

Password Protected Access

For online journal titles that require an ID and password for access, consult the Library's Online Journal Passwords page.

If you have any questions about online journal access, please contact Jonathan Lord, Collection Development Librarian, at 924-0059 or jml4s@virginia.edu.
