Reserve Collection
The Reserve Collection: The Reserve Collection is located behind the Reference Desk in the main foyer of the Library.
Permanent Reserves: Many of the basic textbooks for the fields of study taught as part of the Health Systems' curriculum are on Reserve for ready-reference by Medical, Nursing and Basic Sciences students and faculty. These books circulate outside the Library for 2 hours. They may be used inside the Library indefinitely without being checked out.
Class or Temporary Reserves: These are books requested by faculty to be put on Reserve for use by a class. Usually they are books already owned by the Library and are in the general collection, but sometimes they are personal copies that belong to the professor who's teaching the class. They are in the Reserve collection by semester, and may be checked out for 2 hours. They may be found by searching the on-line catalog by course or by instructor as well as by author or title. Rather than being shelved by class, they are shelved alphabetically by call number, so that they are located within their subject area. If you need help finding a call number for a class reserve, ask at Circulation or at the Reference desk.
In addition to class reserve books, the Reserve collection contains a few boxes of uncataloged materials that belong to faculty. These are usually copies of old exams or course handouts for use by students. These items are usually photocopied inside the Library and do not circulate outside.
Training materials: The Health System's Center for Organizational Development uses the Library to circulate many of its training materials. Some of the most popular items are the Mandatory Training Modules, the Infection Control video, the Corporate Compliance video. Some of these materials are housed at the Circulation Desk, and others are available in the Reserve Collection that contains most of the Reserve videotapes as well as some collections of slides and audiocassettes. Please ask at the Circulation or Reference Desks if you need help finding training materials.
Placing items on Reserve: Health System faculty may place materials on Reserve by submitting a Reserve Request form. There are paper forms available at Circulation, and the electronic form is available from our web page. To place photocopies of journal articles on Reserve, faculty must set up their class in ITC’s Toolkit, and the articles will be made available electronically to students. The Library can assist with scanning, or faculty may place their own articles on the web. Please call the Collection Services Supervisor at 982-4080 if you have questions about Reserve procedures. At this time, the Library does not have any carrels available to reserve for classes, and does not place any paper copies of journal articles in the Reserve Collection.
