The letters are transcribed as written, but personal names and street addresses have been redacted so individual soldiers cannot be identified. Each place where such information has been removed is indicated by empty brackets. Misspellings in the letters have been preserved, but the correct spelling of a word is given in brackets following the misspelled word. Beery saved most of the envelopes. Many have "ans" written on the envelope itself, and in those cases that is indicated at the end of the transcription by [envelope marked "ans"].
