Internet Explorer 7.0/8.0 Proxy Set Up

Set Up Internet Explorer 7.0/8.0 for
Windows to Use the Proxy Server

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on the Tools icon from the upper right of the browser and select Internet Options from the menu:

  3. Select the Connections
tab and click the button for LAN Settings.

  4. Click the radio button for Use automatic configuration script. In the Address box, type
    http://proxy.virginia.edu/.

  5. Click the OK
    button, then OK again.

Log-in to the Proxy Server

  1. Once you have configured Internet Explorer to use the UVa proxy
server, you can access Library resources such as full-text journals and
books from your computer. When you attempt to access any restricted
Library resource such as Ovid MEDLINE or full-text journals you will be
    prompted for the proxy login.

  2. Enter your UVa computing ID (your e-mail ID, e.g. mst3k)
in the User name field. In the Password
field, enter the password you chose when you created your proxy server
    account.
  3. Click OK to log into the
    proxy server.

You should now have access to licensed resources for the rest of your Internet Explorer session.

If you forget your proxy password, you can re-create your account by
going to the Proxy
Server Account Management page
.

If your login fails, or you encounter any other problems using the
proxy server, please call the ITC Help Desk at (434) 924-3731 or send
e-mail to

for assistance.
