Introduction
Google Scholar is a search engine used to find information on research topics including scholarly articles from various publishers. Journal articles licensed by the University of Virginia Libraries (as well as publicly accessible full-text articles) are available to University of Virginia staff, faculty, and students through Google Scholar.
Step-By-Step
- Visit the Google Scholar page, enter your topic in the search box, in this case, heart disease, then click Search .
- Locating the full-text article may involve several steps:
- First, click the title of the article. If a free version of the article is available, it will appear, or you will be given a link to a PDF.

- If a free article is not available, click the Browser’s back button to return to the citation on the results page. Look for a Find This@UVa Libraries link. Click on this link and you will be taken to the UVa Journals: Find@UVa page. Click on any get article link to be taken to the full text of the article.

- If a Find This@UVa Libraries link is not available, click on the Look it up@UVa Libraries link. You will be taken to the UVa Journals: Find@UVa page. Click on by journal title to search Virgo, the UVa Library catalog, to determine if the libraries own a print copy of the article. If a print copy of the article is not available, click on the Health Sciences Library link, to order the article through ILLIAD, the Library’s interlibrary loan system.
