How do I scan text to a Word document in the Health Sciences Library?

Use the flatbed scanners and ABBYY Finereader, located near the Reserve Collection.

What you are scanning (slide, transparency, film, etc.) and your intended final destination for the scan (PowerPoint, web, print, publication) will influence which software and settings you choose for your scan. Follow the instructions in this topic for scanning to a Word document, or

Step by Step:

Place your document in the scanner with the text facing the glass.
On the computer’s desktop, click the icon Scan to Word.
When ABBYY FineReader opens click the Down Arrow next to Scan&Read, then select Scan&Read or Scan&Read Multiple Images if you have a multi-page document.
Click Scan at the bottom of the window.
Once you are finished scanning, click the Down Arrow next to Save, and select Send to Microsoft Word.
