is an alternative.

Introduction
Access to UVa resources such as MEDLINE, full-text journals,
and MD Consult is restricted to UVa faculty, staff, and students.
To get to these resources from outside UVa, we recommend
the proxy server.
However,
an alternative is
UVa-Anywhere.
In addition to
providing off-Grounds access to Library resources, UVaAnywhere
also enables you to use other UVa network resources from home,
such as your Home Directory.
Step-By-Step
To set up UVa-Anywhere from home:
STEP 1: Obtain a personal certificate.

Go to
ITC's personal
certificate
page:

Read the digital certificate agreement notice and click
OK.

Enter your
computing ID,
password,
last name,
University ID,
and
birthdate
in
the appropriate blanks, and then click
Submit
information.
STEP 2: Download and install the VPN client.
Go to the
VPN client
page:

If you do not already have a UVa Digital Certificate on your computer, select the option to enter your UVa Computing ID and password to verify that you are
UVa-affiliated.

You will then be directed to the VPN client download.

Read the disclaimer and click
"
I Agree"
to
proceed:

When prompted, click
"
run"
to install
itc-vpn481.exe:
STEP 3: Configure UVa-Anywhere.

Open the program by clicking the padlock icon:

Make sure to select your certificate when you use the client
for the first time. Under the
"
Connection
Entries"
tab choose
UVa-Anywhere,
then
click on
"
Modify."
Under
"
Certificate
Authentication"
choose the certificate you made in Step
1, then click on
"
Save.'
To make a connection,
click on
"
Connect."
You are now all set to use UVa-Anywhere to access
UVa-restricted resources.
